Coming soon - Joseph Micallef @ Intercontinental Hotel

At last I will be having a regular gig. Unfortunately it will not be with Acoustika. I will be with another guitarist (still rehearsing) and probably a flamenco dancer too! They want flamenco...and well...hmm... we will give them as near to that as possible. I mean to play flamenco means to rehearse at least 6 hours every day! Who can spare that time without being a full time musican? If I had to rehearse for 6 hours after work I would finish at maybe 11pm!

Well, anyone who wants to see me/listen to me play can visit the Intercontinental Hotel on Wednesdays as from next month (September) but I dot know the exact date when we start. I will post it here when I have it.

Hope to cya there.

Next Wedding (September)

Acoustika will be playing at The Palms next Friday 3rd September after 7.30pm. Maybe someone would like to visit and mingle with the guests for some time to listen to us. You might then want to book us for your wedding. Feel free to talk to us in between numbers or during our short breaks.

Joseph Micallef for Acoustika

The "other" Acoustika

I was checking how we fare in a google search...and guess what...someone else is using Acoustika as a stage-name! Yes, exactly like we write it. Don't you think it is too much to be just a coincidence to choose a name that is spelt exactly as we write it? I mean, the word should actually be written in Italian: acustica...or in Maltese: Akustika...BUT Acoustika is our invention! It is a crossbreed from Acoustic (English) and Akustika (Maltese). We tried to be original. Then some lazy chaps formed their group - and did not bother to think a bit before choosing a name - I guess they just found this unknown group from Malta and they took the name for themselves cos they liked it!
Check them out at http://acoustika.cjb.net and www.fotolog.net/acoustika . I did complain to them in their guestbook as you can see for yourself - and even gave them details as to how to contact me but I guess they either never view their website or they couldn't care less. All I know is that Acoustika is our trio, we thought of the name around 1995. This other "band" is recent so they cannot claim ownership to the name.
Well you are welcome to add your comments re this subject and even back us by complaining to this new band in their guestbook. Who knows maybe they would change the name a bit so as not to be exacly like ours!

Our Percussionist Louis Naudi

I would like to say a few words about our beloved percussionist Louis Naudi. As you could see from the pop-up message when you entered our website, he is in England for therapy. He has been there for nearly a year now (if I am not mistaken - he was taken there last December 2003)

We of Acoustika, plus all his friends, are really sad about this. Apart from a musical collegue he is a very good friend. We would not want to lose him. He has helped in making many a wedding reception a success with his percussion playing. He also contributed immensely to the success of our CD, Acoustic Dream.

BUT all we can do is PRAY PRAY and PRAY. Please Pray with us. If you can provide some financial assistance please do so because he needs to pay lodging and probably for the treatment too - which is no mean feat. PLUS he has a family to maintain (wife and 3 kids). If you can help financially please send us an email at
plectrum@onvol.net and we will make arrangements.

If you want to hear Louis play you can either buy our CD (beware of copied ones from the MONTI Valletta market which have a substandard presentation)...or download a couple of MP3's from our site by clicking
HERE.

Acoustika at work Posted by Hello

Hello to all Acoustika fans

Hi fans. This is our new Blog - or u can call it online-diary. Whatever. Here you will find news about our wareabouts. Mostly weddings presently mind you. But who knows...maybe some day soon - if tourism picks up - you might happen to see us at a hotel or restaurant playing our latin music.

Well this is my first entry - mostly to test the system and check how it looks. I will certainly be posting more interesting things eventually.
